You can call it cold brew matcha or iced matcha. Regardless of the name, matcha and cold water mixed together get you a cold matcha drink that is super tasty and easy to make.

One tsp of matcha = one serving. One Japanese bamboo tea spoon is a bit less than a kitchen tea spoon.

Cold brew matcha is easy. You mix green and vibrant Japanese, organic matcha with great-tasting cold water. It is done in less than a minute.

Shake the organic matcha and the cold, great tasting water for 30 seconds. Ready!

To prepare your matcha: use a mixing vessel with a wide opening and a closable lid!

  • The benefits of cold brew matcha are the same as matcha made with hot water.

  • Cold brew matcha has the same amount of antioxidants and L-theanine levels as hot matcha.

  • The caffeine in matcha helps you stay focused and productive.

  • The L-theanine in matcha balances the caffeine and prevents you from becoming jittery.

  • A cup of cold brew matcha, made with 1 tsp of matcha powder, will contain approximately 70 mg of caffeine.

You can drink your matcha pure. If you add ice, make sure its also prepared with great tasting water.

The recipe below makes 1 serving of cold matcha

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp organic matcha from Shimodozono, Japan. You get it from me :-)!

  • 200 ml cold, great-tasting water.

  • Oat milk, almond milk, or soy milk (or any other plant-based milk of your choice).

  • Or mix your matcha with coconut water. You can use only coconut water or mix it with water. Coconut water is naturally sweet, hydrating, and full of important nutrients in itself.

  • Ice cubes - optional (if you use them, make sure they are made of great-tasting water).

Combine the organic matcha and cold water or coconut water in a bottle/shaker and shake until the matcha is mixed well (approximately 30 seconds). See detailed steps below.

Pour the cold water/coconut water into the bottle.

Add the organic matcha.

Close the lid and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds.

Pour the cold matcha into a glass. You can add cold oat milk, soy, almond, or another alternative of your choice if you use only water for your matcha. A plant-based milk is best as it allows for all the nutrients to be fully absorbed by your body. Cow's milk is commonly used for lattes, but the proteins in cow's milk can interfere with the absorption of the catechins (antioxidants) in matcha, so it's not recommended.

Matcha and plant based milk (especially oat milk if you ask me) is delicious and refreshing!

Why is organic matcha so important? Because you consume the entire leaves itself. Our matcha from Shimodozono is, of course, organic and made from shaded tencha. It's carefully ground into a vibrant green powder using the slow stone grinding process to secure the highest quality.

Matcha vs coffee! Why not try something other than your coffee? Your stomach will thank you for sure. Matcha will give you 70 mg of caffeine per serving (if you use 1 teaspoon). The big benefit is that the amino acid L-theanine in matcha will combine with the caffeine and make you more awake and refreshed without any jitteriness. You will stay more awake for about 3-4 hours (compared to coffee, where the effect will wear off quicker). One cup of brewed coffee contains approximately 100 mg of caffeine. One shot of espresso contains approximately 60 mg. And steeped green tea contains approximately 35-45 mg of caffeine. The earlier harvested the tea is, the higher the caffeine content.

Easy and delicious. Cool matcha!
