Healthy feet and ankles increases our overall wellbeing and health.

The feet might not be the main "thing", but paying close attention to our foot health and their alignment is essential for being able to move and live a pain-free life! If the foundation of our body is out of alignment, all that builds upon it, will reflect that misalignment. Misalignments in our feet and ankles create tension and pain further up in our knees, hips, shoulders, and neck. Also six of our body´s main meridians begin or end in our feet. So having healthy feet also will influence how energy moves or is blocked in your body and your organs.

The sooner you start to pay attention to your foot and ankle health, the better for your overall health and wellbeing.

I myself neglected my feet for many years. In the past I had repeated, serious sprains in my ankles, especially in the right one. Only now, in the last maybe five years (since COVID) of my yoga practice, have I fully awakened to the importance of rebuilding the strength and flexibility of my feet and ankles.

The good thing is that building back your foot strength does not require any lengthy training programs or equipment. You will probably be able to integrate more foot and ankle attention into your daily practice, especially if you do yoga. See more below and in a new blog post this spring where I will focus on the moves that has helped me.

Let your feet free as much as possible!

There are many great sources and online courses if you want to dig deeper into this topic and find the best moves for your feet and ankles. @Art.physio has one very good course online if you are interested. And Glenda Hodge has written. several interesting books that I recommend to every person interested in foot health. You find more about Glenda and her books books here.

So why do we neglect our feet?

Probably because they are far away from our eyes and head? And maybe also because foot and ankle-related problems often develop slowly over time, so we get used to them. We start to think that we can do nothing about the problems. But we definitely can!

Here are some tips for building healthier and happier feet, ankles, and body in general

- Integrate a few 3-5 foot and ankle moves into your daily yoga practice or daily routine. You should focus on: releasing tension in the soles of your feet, building overall strength and flexibility in the feet and ankles. Here are a few moves to choose from to start with try them out and figure out what is most useful for you.

- Pay close attention to any misalignments in your feet and ankles - pronation or supination -your toe area, as well as the three arches in your feet.

- You should distribute your body weight evenly on both feet, 60% on your heels/backside and 40% in your toe area.

-Get rid of all shoes that misalign your toes or limit your feet in any way, or at least wear them more seldom. Your feet must be able to spread out in all directions to function properly and give you a good foundation to walk, move, stand, and run on.

-Choose barefoot shoes that are good for your feet and whole body.

-During the warm season, walk barefoot outside as much as you can.

-Whenever you can and when you get home after work, let your feet breathe and be free.

-Give your feet a good foot bath and care as often as time permits, and every now and then invest in a foot treatment by a professional foot reflexologist or similar.

Good luck with your new feet-focused you!

So what does this blog post have to do with tea? Not much, probably. But I encourage you to steep yourself a great cuppa or pot every time you take your foot bath. Light a candle too. Relax, rejuvenate, and enjoy the moment fully.
